Author recalls how Harry & Meghan Markle caused an old monarch enormous upset
Queen Elizabeth’s heartbreak over Prince Harry she trusted to smooth out growing rumbles of Republicanism comes out
An author and biographer famous for following Queen Elizabeth around for an entire year during one of her events has just released his new book Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story, and it features some emotional accounts, especially some of her biggest ‘betrayals’ she’s faced at her own family’s hands.
According to a report in The Telegraph the quote from his book began by highlighting just how much faith the Queen used to have in her youngest grandson the Spare.
According to Mr Hardman, “the Queen recognised what a modernising force Harry was. In March 2012, she sent him to Jamaica during her Diamond Jubilee celebrations at a time when there were growing rumbles of Republicanism.”
“Everyone assumed that privilege would go to Prince Charles, or at the very least Prince William. But no,” he noted. “It was Harry who got this huge pat on the back. It’s a truly global moment, watched by billions of people. And when she gave it to Harry, we all thought, ‘That’s an interesting move.’ And, of course, what she knew, what he knew and what none of us knew at the time, was that he was going to be sent to Afghanistan that autumn.”
But then things shifted, despite getting a private trip on the royal train with Queen Elizabeth, the author claims, “as far as the Queen was concerned, Harry and Meghan had everything handed to them but wanted to throw it all away.”
Once Megxit actually came to pass its also said she was “enormously upset” and “terribly sad” about what she called a ‘wasted opportunity’ by the Sussexes.
“She had a very direct manner, possibly because there was a tremendous flapping around her. While other people would be getting into a complete stew, she would keep calm and was always terribly practical.”
