Zendaya's hesitation with admitting to their marriage explained
Zendaya explains why she won’t confirm Tom Holland marriage rumours
Zendaya has made it clear she will not be confirming or denying rumours about a possible marriage with Tom Holland.
The actress acknowledged on Wednesday the intense public interest in their relationship but stressed that it was important to maintain personal boundaries.
“I just feel like for me there is this level of a parasocial investment in my personal relationship,” she said during an appearance on the Modern Love podcast.
“I do know that I’m a public person and so is he and I’m also aware that we’ve grown up in front of people and we’ve done movies where we fall in love with each other so I really do understand that and I don’t want to dismiss that like, ‘Stay out of my business’ or whatever.”
Zendaya continued, “In a lot of ways, I’m also a very private person and I try my best to be able to have things for myself and for him as well.”
The actress insisted that she and Tom are not trying to “hide from the world,” but rather “preserve things for ourselves so that we can maintain that joy just within ourselves and our loved ones and our family.”
“I hear it but also my own little boundaries of what I like to bring up and talk about but then also what I’m willing to share.”
Her comments come amid new speculation sparked by stylist Law Roach, though neither she nor Holland have addressed the claims directly. Fans who have followed Holland and Zendaya from the start know this high-profile couple never intended to make their relationship public.
These Spiderman costars only confirmed their romance in 2021 after paparazzi shots captured them sharing a kiss, ending what was years of speculation about their off-screen chemistry.
However, Holland shared his disappointment over the photos long ago, lamenting that their privacy was taken out of their hands. “One of the downsides of our fame is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore,” Tom told GQ a few months after the photos went viral.
“A moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world,” he said at the time. He added that the experience left them feeling as though their privacy had been “robbed.”
Zendaya resonated with his feelings. “It was quite strange and weird and confusing and invasive,” she said in the same interview.
However, the couple has still managed to keep most of their relationship out of the spotlight, sharing only selected glimpses with fans.
