What happens if King Charles postpones US visit? US ambassador to the UK reveals

King Charles’ upcoming State Visit to the US has been under discussion for many months now and its widely due to the fact that, US President Donald Trump recently spoke out against the UK, due to their ‘lack luster’ support in the US’ actions in Iran. In his show of disapproval the president referenced Prime Minister Keir Starmer and called UK aircraft carriers as ‘toys’ as compared to its US counterparts.

Donald Trumps’ Statement:

The president not only referenced the UK but all Nato allies when he said, “Actually made a statement, a couple of them, that ‘we want to get involved when the war is over’. No, it’s supposed to get involved with the war’s beginning, or even before it begins.”

“We had the UK say – this is three weeks ago – ‘we’ll send our aircraft carriers’, which aren’t the best aircraft carriers, by the way. They’re toys compared to what we have. But ‘we’ll send our aircraft carrier when the war is over’. I said: ‘Oh that’s wonderful, thank you very much. Don’t bother. We don’t need it’. Now they all want to help. When they’re annihilated, the other side is annihilated, they said ‘we’d love to send ships’.”

Thoughts Of Washington’s ambassador to the UK:

According to The Mirror, the ambassador, Warren Stephens called the entire idea “a mistake” right off the bat, explaining that if King Charles were to consider a canceling, Mr Trump “will go ballistic”.

Furthermore, before signing off he also said, “I think he will go and I think it will be a very meaningful trip for him (Charles).”

Others also echoed similar sentiments, like royal biographer Andrew Lownie who believes the trip may provide the King an opportunity to convince the president “to do things that might not be possible otherwise.”
