New Zealand PM Christopher Luxon backs removing ex-Prince Andrew from line of succession

New Zealand has joined Australia in supporting a potential move to remove former Prince Andrew from the line of succession.

According to The Sun, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said they would back any official proposal once the ongoing police investigation into the former Duke of York, who now goes by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, is complete.

A spokesperson for said: "If the UK Government proposes to remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the order of succession, New Zealand would support it.

"The UK Government has said any proposals would come after the police investigation concludes."

This comes after Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese penned a letter telling the UK prime minister Keir Starmer that his government would support any proposal to take King Charles' younger brother out of the line of succession.

“In light of recent events concerning Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, I am writing to confirm that my government would agree to any proposal to remove him from the line of royal succession," the letter read.

“I agree with His Majesty that the law must now take its full course and there must be a full, fair and proper investigation," it added. “These are grave allegations and Australians take them seriously.”

Last week, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of sharing sensitive information with the Jeffrey Epstein during his time in public office.

The ex-royal, who has repeatedly denied wrongdoing over his friendship with Epstein, was released from custody the same day.
