Video offers glimpse into palace King Charles never lived in
King Charles interestingly never lived in the palace, which has 1,400 to 1,600 rooms
Clarence House in London is the palace where King Charles mostly resides. But there is another mansion, which the monarch never lived in; however, it's undergoing a winter clean.
It's in Richmond-upon-Thames, called Hampton Court Palace. The Historic Royal Palaces, a charity that oversees the site, shares a clip on Instagram, giving a glimpse of the ongoing conservation work.
Pippa Kemsley, the Preventive Conservator, in the video shows the cleaning process of the palace, which has horns and antlers and requires specialized brushes.
The clip's caption read, "Our Preventive Conservation team works hard throughout the year to care for our palaces."
"At this time of year, you may see our conservators carrying out inspections, conservation cleaning, or applying treatments from large scaffolding in hard-to-reach areas. This is all part of our work to look after the buildings and collections in our care!"
It is worth noting that King George II, who ruled from 1727 to 1760, was the last monarch to live at Hampton Court Palace, which was built in 1514 by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, Archbishop of York and the chief minister of Henry VIII.
Meanwhile, Clarence House, where Charles primarily lived, was built by John Nash in 1825-27 for King George III's third son, the Duke of Clarence.
