Fans react to Cher's slipup in announcing Kendrick Lamar Grammy
Cher fumbled the announcement of Kendrick Lamar and SZA's Grammy win
Cher has made headlines with her flub at the 2026 Grammys, and fan reactions are in!
After accepting her Lifetime Achievement Award, Cher gave a short speech and almost left the stage when host Trevor Noah called her back to announce the Record of The Year nominees.
"Cher, before you go … can we get you to announce the nominees? I could do it … but I don’t have the track record," Noah, 41, quipped.
The legendary musician turned around and returned to the mic, saying, "You can see I wanted to get off the stage."
She went on to announce the nominees alongside the montage video showing Bad Bunny, Sabrina Carpenter, Doechii, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar and SZA, Chappell Roan and Rosé and Bruno Mars.
When the time came to announce the winner, she got confused and waited for the name to appear on the prompter before realizing that she had to read it from the envelope. She then flubbed and announced the late Luther Vandross instead of Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
"And the Grammy goes to … oh, they told me it was gonna be on the prompter,” she said, before zipping her lip with her hand and looking down at the envelope. “Oh, the Grammy goes to Luther Vandross!" she proclaimed.
What Cher was supposed to say was "Luther by Lamar and SZA." The song, named after the late musician, is produced by Jack Antonoff and Sounwave and samples Vandross and Cheryl Lynn’s 1982 duet If This World Were Mine.
Fans responded to the video on social media and collectively decided to let Cher’s mistake go.
"'Grammy goes to Luther Vandross'…low key iconic cause he deserves it and the song named after him," wrote one.
Another showed support for Cher, writing, "Give her a break she practically 80 folks. & She was being genuine. Gotta love her. So adorable."
"Cher is a diva and a little mistake doesn't matter....I love her…," wrote a third.
"Aaaaw poor Cher...but we forgive that queen anything," penned another.
