Three years after the global Barbenheimer frenzy, will Dunesday be an equally big thing? Lead stars Robert Downey Jr. and Timothée Chalamet want it to.

Both Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 18 this year, in a major cinema face-off.

Timothee and Robert appeared on stage together in LA at a special screening of Chalamet’s A24 movie Marty Supreme.

During the January 14 event, the Avengers star told the audience: "We both have films opening on December 18, and we decided to coin it … We’re thinking Dunesday."

The audience laughed, and Robert added, "We’ll see if we’re still friends by then."

The two big-budget films are expected to give each other a boost at the cinema by encouraging people to do double features.

That is what Barbie and Oppenheimer did for each other in summer 2023. Fans decided to go to the theaters to watch both films back to back. The films ended up making a whopping $2.5B worldwide, with Christopher Nolan’s film making 975 million, and Greta Gerwig’s film making the rest.

The last Avengers film, Endgame, still remains the second-highest-grossing movie of all time with $2.8B at the global box office. Dune: Part Two earned $715M worldwide.
