Meta Compute: Zuckerberg's gigawatt-scale bet to dominate the AI era
Meta has announced the launch of a new top-level organization to consolidate and accelerate the company’s massive AI infrastructure buildout
Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg has officially unveiled the Meta Compute-a new top level initiative to build tens of gigawatts of AI infrastructure this decade.
The statement was released on Facebook yesterday confirming that the company also plans to build “hundreds of gigawatts or more over time” as part of an initiative to outshine its Big Tech competitors.
The new Meta Compute project will be led by Santosh Jamardhan, Head of Global Infrastructure and Daniel Gross who joins as a senior leader to oversee long-term capacity strategy.
Zuckerberg explained that both will work in close collaboration with the newly appointed Dina Powell McCormick to effectively partner with governments and leaders to build, deploy, and manage strategic investments.
Meta previously stated that it will invest over $600 billion in U.S infrastructure and jobs by 2028 in a significant move to build more AI data centres and enhance its computing capabilities.
The recent 2026 launch represents a fundamental shift in the company’s identity from a social media giant toward building an AI infrastructure powerhouse.
