325mg daily dose of aspirin: Trump's age-defying fitness habits revealed
US president considers exercise a boring activity and takes a high dose of aspirin
During a wide-ranging interview with The Wall Street Journal, President Donald Trump brushed aside concerns about his fitness, insisting his health is “perfect.”
The 79-year-old is the oldest sitting president in U.S. history, and this interview was aimed at silencing rumours that he had slowed down.
Trump, in conversation with The Wall Street Journal said that he takes more aspirin than doctors recommend, uses makeup to cover bruises on his hands, and does not regularly exercise because he finds it boring.
He has further claimed that he underwent a CT scan in October after inaccurately telling reporters that he had undergone a more detailed MRI scan.
As the newspaper was planning to publish a story about his health-marking- the 25th time the topic has been raised-Trump said at the start of an impromptu call: “ My health is perfect.”
According to Trump, he has taken larger than recommended doses of aspirin for the last 25 years, which has made him more susceptible to contusions.
“They say aspirin is good for thinning our blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart.”
Despite doctors’ recommendations, he takes a 325mg daily dose of aspirin rather than the 81mg dose sometimes recommended for cardiac prevention.
In this connection, Trump said, “They'd rather have me take the smaller one.”
Trump spoke about the medical scan he received at Walter Reed, clarifying that it was a CT scan and not the MRI scan he previously claimed to have undergone.
When Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, which is a common condition in older people, he was advised to wear compression socks, but he denied.
He said, “I didn't like them as he now gets up from his desk more frequently which has improved swelling in his legs.”
Regarding his lifestyle, Trump dismissed the need for traditional exercise, stating that he finds running on a treadmill boring.
He also defended himself against rumours of cognitive decline, insisting his hearing is perfect and claiming that the photos appearing to show him asleep merely capture him blinking or resting his eyes during long meetings.
He said, “Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking and they’ll catch me with a blink.”
Trump's recent interview underscores ongoing health concerns; however he maintains he is perfectly suited to execute his duties as he begins his second year in office.
