Man arrested after six attacked by 'metal bar' in hospital

A disturbing incident forced police at Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside town in England to arrest a man after six people were allegedly attacked with a weapon at a community hospital.
According to police officials, several people have been attacked after a man ‘increasingly agitated’ was denied an appointment at Merseyside.
The attacker, believed to be in his 20s, was detained from the hospital on Tuesday December 30, 2025, in the afternoon, reports BBC.
"We were called to reports of a man behaving aggressively at the hospital who had assaulted a number of people," said Superintendent Sarah Rotherham.
Sarah also acknowledged that the officers immediately responded to the incident and the male was arrested quickly.
As reported by the police officials, a 'metal bar,' used as a weapon during the incident, was recovered for forensic examination.
The officials further informed that "the paramedics at the hospital promptly attended the victims and gave first aid to the injured."
Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said it was "working closely with Merseyside Police."
The hospital also mentioned on its official website, "Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our staff, patients, and visitors, and we are providing full support to those affected."
Additionally, the injured are under treatment and no casualties have been reported so far.
Following the incident, a force spokesman informed BBC, that the suspect remained under police custody in Merseyside and was later detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act.
