Eric Schmidt AI warning: Why former Google CEO says we may need to ‘Pull the Plug’
Eric Schmidt warned about three AI advances will profoundly impact the world
In the tech-driven world, the AI models have been evolving at a rapid pace without significant guardrails.
Given the breakneck speed at which AI models are advancing, the former Google CEO Eric Schmidt has issued a chilling warning regarding the future of artificial intelligence.
In a widely circulated video on X, Schmidt warned about three AI advances: Infinite context, chain-of-thought reasoning for tough problems, and plenty of agents capable of performing tasks and running codes on their own.
The American businessman said, “There are roughly three things going on now that could profoundly change the world. The first thing is ‘the question of context window’. This year people are inventing a context window that is infinitely long.”
The second one is agents and agents can be understood as a large language model that knows something new. These agents are going to be really powerful.
“And it is reasonable to expect swarms of agents in the near future,” Schmidt predicted.
While talking about the third future advancement, Schmidt said, “The most profound is text-action that could write codes and perform every single task.”
The 70-year-old explained, “Within 5 years, AI could handle infinite context, chain-of-thought reasoning for 1000-step solutions, and millions of agents working together. Eventually, they will develop their own language... and we won't understand what they're doing."
Talking about solutions to prevent the scenarios where AI agents could soon escape human control, Schmidt said, “The solution lies in pulling the plug.”
