Kate Middleton, Prince William pay 'market rent' for Forest Lodge?
Prince William and Kate Middleton had approached the Crown Estate
Days after King Charles issued formal notice to his brother former Duke of York Andrew to move out of the Royal Lodge, the attention has diverted to Prince William and Kate Middleton who moved into their new home Forest Lodge.
Princess Eugenie and Beatrice father had not paid any amount of money to live in Royal Lodge for two decades, as per the claims by The Times recently.
The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis moved into Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park in October 2025 after they began plans in July 2025.
Days after Kate and William’s move, the House of Commons shared that the Wales family has a 20-year lease on the home.
The briefing reads, “Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales hold a 20-year non-assignable lease with The Crown Estate for Forest Lodge, commencing 5 July 2025. At the time of writing, the redacted version of the lease has not yet been published by the Land Registry. This property sits within the Windsor Estate and therefore Section 5 of the Act applies.”
Before moving to the new home, Prince William and Kate approached the Crown Estate.
The Us Weekly reported, the document further states, “the Commissioners were asked to consider entering into a lease of the Property to TRH The Prince and Princess of Wales for use as their primary private residence.”
The outlet, also citing the PEOPLE, reported Kate and William pay “market rent” for the home.
They also funded “minor renovations” to the property ahead of moving in, which they paid for themselves.
The exact amount of rent has not been revealed.
