AI’s next big leap? OpenAI CEO Sam Altman makes bold prediction
According to Sam Altman, tech firms are focusing on wrong feature for this breakthrough
In the age of AI, the point of achieving superhuman artificial intelligence is often considered a watershed moment. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has dropped a bold prediction regarding this breakthrough.
According to the ChatGPT maker’s boss, the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) can only be achieved when AI systems gain “infinite and perfect memory” instead of reasoning.
Recently, the tech firms who are working on large language models (LLMs) are trying to improve AI’s reasoning abilities.
While speaking on Big Technology Podcast, Altman said he was waiting for a moment when AI can remember every detail of your entire life and his company is working to achieve this milestone in 2026.
Mr Altman said, “Even if you have the world’s best personal assistant... they can’t remember every word you’ve ever said in your life.”
“They can't read every document you’ve ever written. They can’t be looking at all your work every day and remembering every little detail. And no human has infinite, perfect memory,” he added.
Altman continued, “And AI is definitely gonna be able to do that. We actually talk a lot about this—right now, memory is still very crude, very early.”
Talking about the strategy to win the AI race, he said the companies should focus on building the best product around the best models and have enough infrastructure to serve their needs at a massive scale.
The comments of OpenAI CEO came when he declared “code red” at the company following the launch of Google’s new Gemini model, aiming to improve ChatGPT capabilities.
