Easily missed King Charles Christmas tribute to Kate Middleton during broadcast comes out
King Charles' relationship with his daughter-in-law has been hailed this year as the monarch paid a tribute that was easy to miss
King Charles paid a quiet but deeply meaningful tribute to his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, in this year’s Christmas message, through a choice of setting and striking festive details.
The monarch had chosen Westminster Abbey as the location for his annual Christmas broadcast, which aired on Christmas Day. This marked the fourth festive message of his reign and the second not filmed inside a royal residence.
Images released ahead of the broadcast revealed the touching connection to Princess Kate because the Christmas trees positioned behind King Charles were repurposed from the Princess of Wales’ Together at Christmas carol concert, which was held at Westminster Abbey earlier this month.
The concert, hosted annually by Kate, has become a major fixture in the royal Christmas calendar and focuses on themes of compassion, service and hope.
In another heartfelt gesture, the princess also donated one of the Christmas trees from her carol concert to The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, where she serves as Joint Patron alongside Prince William.
The King’s broadcast was filmed in the Lady Chapel of Westminster Abbey, a richly historic setting built by Henry VII.
It is understood that King Charles specifically requested a filming location away from a traditional royal residence.
The monarch’s Christmas message is one of the few occasions each year when he does not seek advice from the Government.
Written entirely by the King himself, the speech traditionally reflects his personal beliefs, current events and moral outlook, often framed through a strong religious lens.
