'Zootopia 2' joins Disney’s billion-dollar club, outpacing hits like 'Moana' and 'Frozen'
Zootopia's sequel has made movie audiences go gaga, as they swarmed to cinemas to see it, pushing the animated movie over the $1 billion mark worldwide in just 17 days.
According to the Walt Disney Company, the film becomes the fastest PG-rated flick to surpass the significant figure.
In addition, other records broken include the fourth-highest global opening ever, the biggest global opening ever for an animated film, and the biggest opening weekend for any film in 2025.
Jared Bush, who is Walt Disney Animation Studios, gushes over the milestone, stating, “Everyone at Disney Animation put their heart, soul and passion into this film to tell a story full of joy, imagination, and incredible thoughtfulness."
He continues, "This milestone means the world to us, because more than anything, it means audiences are coming to theaters for a shared experience of watching this movie on the big screen, everyone together, from all walks of life around the world — and that is a Zootopia dream come true.”
Meanwhile, the sequel's cast includes recurring faces, Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman, who reprise their roles of buddy cops Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.
Its logline read, "ZPD detectives Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as their partnership is tested when they go undercover to investigate a mysterious reptile, Gary De'Snake, who disrupts the city, uncovering a deeper conspiracy involving reptiles being erased from history and a hidden district, forcing Judy and Nick to confront their own insecurities and solidify their bond while clearing reptiles' names."
