Cara Buono explains 'Stranger Things' season 5 cast shake up ahead of finale
Cara Buono is explaining a major change in 'Stranger Things' season 5
Cara Buono is explaining the recasting of her onscreen daughter Holly Wheeler in the final season of Stranger Things.
In season 5, Holly is played by Nell Fisher while Cara plays her, Mike, and Nancy’s mom Karen. The character is also aged up and brought at the center of the story.
"In season 1, Holly is four years old and she’s in Joyce’s house. The Demogorgon reaches out and the lights go crazy as he starts to reach through the wall. So I love how that was set up from the beginning," she noted.
"I watched all the kids grow up in the last 10 years. So we got some new kids on the set and I loved working with Nell. I love spending time with her," se gushedh.
"Nell is incredibly talented and has an incredible work ethic. She’s very smart and we just stepped right into it," the Gladiator actress added.
She acknowledged that the aging up of the character must be confusing for the audience.
"I know that the audience has to suspend belief — in a sense — that suddenly Holly went from age six to 12. But that is part of the Stranger Things world," she explained.
In volume one of Stranger Things season 5, Karen gets to be part of the fight when a demogorgon enters their home to take Holly.
Three more episodes of Stranger Things season 5 will hit Netflix on December 25, followed by the finale on the 31st.
