John Elton is reportedly struggling as he continues to cope with significant vision loss.
According to a new report from RadarOnline.com, the music icon was left blind in his right eye after contracting a severe infection in France during the summer of 2024.
An insider close to Elton has claimed the emotional toll has been overwhelming for the composer.
“Elton has always fought his battles in the open,” one insider shared.
They went on to explain that Elton's latest health setback has deeply shaken him, noting that it has triggered fear and uncertainty unlike anything he has faced before.
“But losing his sight hit him harder than anything. He's terrified of losing more vision, yet he refuses to let fear define him,” the insider added.
Another friend addressed that Elton's distress has reached a troubling point.
“To hear him compare his situation to the AIDS crisis is very alarming and shows how tortured he is over this,” the pal noted.
A second music industry figure added that Elton's comparison has stemmed from a familiar emotional struggle, explaining that he is drawing strength from a place he has reached before.
