Rian Johnson, as a director, worked with many actors in his Knives Out franchise. But a star he is yet to work with is the most Academy-nominated actress, Meryl Streep.
“There are so many actors I haven’t worked with,” he tells IndieWire. “That’s one of the real treats of making these movies, is you get to experience new actors and these big casts.”
“If you’re reading this, Meryl Streep, I feel like you’d slot into a murder mystery very well,” the filmmaker says, adding it's his wish to work with her.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Rian and Daniel Craig, who plays Benoit Blanc in the franchise, were asked about whether Knives Out 4 is a possibility.
"I don't really think of it as a trilogy," the director tells GoldDerby, leading the James Bond star to add, “I suppose because there's three of them.”
He further continues, “I don't think I see it as a trilogy either. Maybe that's up to you guys. But the civil answer is that if we can wind each other up enough, then we'll make another one.”
Moreover, they also shed light on their relationship as the director-actor duo since the franchise began in 2019.
“It's become more of a partnership. With the first movie, we just met cold and jumped into it. [Collaborating] has been one of the true joys of it,” Rian says, adding, “The thing is, we didn't make the first movie thinking we were going to make two more! We're both long enough in the tooth to realize that ain't the way it works.
“For everybody concerned, it was a wonderful surprise the way that audiences reacted to the first one, and that presents itself with, "Now you've got to make another one. That's a high class problem, but it's still a problem,” Daniel notes.
