Macaulay Culkin is taking a trip down memory lane as he reflects on the emotional bee scene from My Girl.
According to a new report from PEOPLE Magazine, the actor revisited one of the most unforgettable and emotional moments of his career during an appearance on the podcast On Film ... with Kevin McCarthy.
Culkin, recalled filming the 1991 classic, in which he starred opposite Anna Chlumsky as childhood best friends Thomas Jay and Vada Sultenfuss.
Commencing the chat, Culkin revealed that the production used real bees to capture the scene's emotional weight.
“They put this stuff on my fingertips that smelled like the queen bee, so [the bees] were actually attracted to my hands,” he shared.
It is noteworthy that in the film, Vada, an 11-year-old girl with a fixation on death, endures devastating heartbreak when Thomas is fatally attacked by a swarm of bees.
“I wasn’t a threat,” he continued, adding, “They actually released thousands of bees on me.”
Nonetheless, Culkin explained why such a scene could not be done nowadays.
"That would not fly today, boy howdy," he said on the podcast.
"They just told me to wave my hands in front of my face, so the bees would get in front of my face, for the camera and all that stuff."
Moreover, Culkin explained that the filmmakers told him "not to touch anything,"
Before conclusion, Culkin remarked, "At one point, I touched my pants, and boom. They were just attracted to my pants."
