Patti Smith marks milestone celebration of debut album
Patti Smith is joined by Clive Davis at Beacon Theatre for ‘Horses’ 50th anniversary
Patti Smith celebrated the 50th anniversary of her legendary debut album, Horses, with great zeal.
The Gloria singer stepped out at the sold out Beacon Theatre to give a memorable performance of the whole album, including the hits, Because the Night and People Gave the Power.
As per the Showbiz 411, among the audience, sitting in third row was music mogul Clive Davis, who signed Smith on spot in 1975 and helped release her first three albums.
Davis enjoyed the show thoroughly as he danced in his seat, mouthing every word of the album.
Smith's debut album gave birth to a new era of rock and roll.
Previously, reported by New York Times, Davis was "knocked out" after recognising her star power during CBGB shows
"Patti's not just another artist to me," he said. "You always have doubt, but there hasn’t been a real good chick like this in a long time. I find her real bright and easy to talk."
Their relationship has been marked by Davis’s unwavering support for Smith’s music.
He released her first three albums via Arista records without demanding radio-friendly hits, allowing her to prioritise raw expression over polish.
Smith in turn has credited Davis with giving her platform to redefine rock and roll. Over the years they have remained connected.
In addition to Davis, the musician’s children also attended the event.
Son Jackson is a keen guitarist who plays in the band. Daughter Jesse Smith joined on keyboards for the finale.
Wrapping up the show, Smith said after completing the celebratory shows she will tour again.
