Russia's first AI-powered humanoid robot 'Green' meets Putin, shows off dancing skills
Putin urged companies to work on building national language models
A Russian artificial intelligence (AI) powered robot recently met President Vladimir Putin during the AI Journey International Conference being held in Moscow from November 19 to 21.
The president was welcomed by the country’s first anthropomorphic robot, developed by Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, at the annual international conference on artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The development came just days after another Russian robot stumbled publicly during its debut presentation.
The Kremlin reports that the robot is powered by the GigaChat large language model and Yandex’s Alice AI generative model.
The humanoid robot introduced itself to the Russian president, saying, “My name is Green. I am the first Russian humanoid robot with embodied artificial intelligence. This means that I am not just a program on the screen but the physical embodiment of technologies.”
The AI-powered robot further told Putin that he was created by Sber engineers, adding, “My motors and numerous sensors allow me to move smoothly, maintain balance and interact safely with people.”
It then showed off its dancing skills to the president before taking its leave and moving to its booth.
Speaking at the event, Putin highlighted the importance of building AI technology for Russia. He said, “We cannot allow critical dependence on foreign systems. For Russia, this is a question of state, technological, and, one could say, value sovereignty.”
He urged companies to work on building national language models, adding, “Russia must possess its own generative AI technologies and products.”
