Oman introduces cultural visa to draw international talent

Oman has reportedly announced the new cultural visa scheme with the aim of providing clear immigration pathways and work temporarily within its borders in the fields of arts and culture.

The recent move primarily indicates that the new policy intends to mitigate administrative barriers for those such as academics, creative professionals, researchers, and specialists.

Which foreign citizens can have access to a visa

Foreign citizens involved in culture-focused activity can now have access to this visa. This permit will cover entry and short-term residence for participation in exchanges, art pedagogy, joint research, festivals, and happenings.

The visa is available with one, five or ten-year durations, each subject to an annual fee of 50 Omani rials.

However, a provision also exists for family members: spouses and first-degree relatives may be included in the application for cultural travel.

The public documents further elucidate several visa categories. The framework further provides legal clarity for foreign involvement, collaboration, and allows Omani institutions to invite and manage international talent with greater ease.

The primary objective of Oman's Cultural strategy 2040 is to build an open knowledge society, which is the goal for the visa’s implementation.
