WhatsApp users at risk: UAE warns of hack that needs only one call
Hackers can now access a smartphone with a single call
The government of the UAE issued a critical security warning against a dangerous “zero-day” vulnerability discovered in WhatsApp that allows hackers to compromise smartphones through a single WhatsApp call from an unknown number without the user answering.
The warnings primarily indicated that attackers could completely hack and compromise a user’s phone through a single WhatsApp call from an unfamiliar number, giving cybercriminals access to user personal photos, and conversations.
Users were advised to take preventive measures to keep themselves protected; Primarily, they need to block calls from unknown numbers, avoid clicking on dubious links, and only rely on official information sources.
On the other hand, the company further suggests that WhatsApp be updated and have two-step verification enabled.
The council previously released warnings that such attacks can cause a glitch upon contact, and people are unaware that their devices have been hacked.
Moreover, it is better to enable multi-factor authentication, and refrain from using personal devices for confidential information.
Users should be aware of fake websites that appear to be real, as these are finding ways to steal your data, money, and identity.
Additionally, staying aware is crucial to knowing how to act next, such as by verifying links from the official UAE Cybersecurity Council official portal: staysafe.csc.gov.ae/home.
