Prince Edward takes on key task for royals after intense storm
Prince Edward marks uplifting royal visit in Wales as he performs important role
Prince Edward was left with a lasting impression from an important royal task in which he honoured two royals, carrying on a key mission.
King Charles’s younger brother found himself immersed in the event held in Cardiff on Tuesday, as he interacted and learned about the experiences of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award participants.
During the visit, the 61-year-old royal had the chance to converse with pupils from the Pen y Dre High School in Merthyr Tydfil, who narrated their stories about how they had to cope with Storm Arm during their DofE.
According to one of the leads of the Maria Tandy, their group had to overcome Storm Amy in October for their silver award in the Lake District. She told GB News, that her school was the only one that didn’t cancel which left the Duke “quite impressed”.
Edward, who was bequeathed the role of his late father Prince Philip as the DofE charity patron, was joined by young people from across Wales at the iconic Senedd building where he also participated in delightful volunteering activities such as making friendship bracelets, planting seeds, and sorting clothes for charity shops.
He then headed to The Pierhead, meeting young Welsh speakers, where he was also presented with a Cynnig Cymraeg certificate from the Welsh Language Commissioner, in recognition of the DofE charity’s commitment to making the Award accessible to all young people in Wales.
He concluded his visit at The Urdd Cardiff Residential Centre, and met young people learning first aid and practising orienteering skills for their DofE expedition.
