A deep sea exploration technology company, DEEP, has unveiled Vanguard, a small steel-pod-like underwater base with capability to operate at a depth of 50 meters.
The base, consisting of a living chamber, a diving center and a foundational, provides a unique habitat for up to four researchers to live and carry out their research under water.
It has a 40-feet long, 12-feet wide pod where aquanauts can eat, work and sleep. Along with this, it also has water, air, waste removal as well as communication infrastructure.
Vanguard was unveiled in Miami, Florida and the company behind it said that they are opening a new era of underwater living with an ambitious mission to make humans aquatic.
DEEP added, “A large unexplored frontier beneath the surface of the ocean has intrigued humans for centuries,” adding that Vanguard will open a whole new realm of science.
Currently, humans can only dive for a limited amount of time but Vanguard will change this by allowing aquanauts to remain submerged for extended periods.
Researchers will have more time to explore the depths of the ocean and return to the habitat designed by DEEP and it will result in more comprehensive research and real time observation of marine life.
