Chappell Roan ‘excited’ to induct music idol Cyndi Lauper into Hall of Fame
Chappell Roan is set to induct pop icon Cyndi Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Chappell Roan is "so excited" to induct her musical idol Cyndi Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Ahead of the ceremony the Grammy winner recorded a sweet video message, shared on the Hall’s official Instagram page, where she raved over the She’s So Unusual hitmaker.
"I’m so excited to be inducting Cyndi Lauper into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame," the 27-year-old says in the clip, where the legendary pop star herself dropped heart-eye emojis in the comments section "She has inspired me with her fashion, her hair, of course, her makeup, her music."
Roan, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, went on to recall how deeply Lauper influenced her even as a teen.
"I actually auditioned with True Colors for America’s Got Talent when I was 13! I didn’t make it, but the song is still incredible," she revealed.
More than 40 years since Lauper, 72, first lit up the Billboard charts, her trailblazing style and artistry continue to inspire a new generation of performers, including Roan, who credits the icon’s bold fashion, colourful hair, and unapologetic individuality as key influences.
The rising pop star is set to mark a full-circle moment as she prepares to honour the Girls Just Want to Have Fun rocker on November 8.
Earlier this year, Roan earned widespread praise for her show-stopping performance of Good Luck, Babe! at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.
The Red Wine Supernova singer also garnered high praise from Lauper, calling the breakout star’s theatrical flair, "performance art."
"And it’s visual, it’s so visual," the True Colors songstress said during her September 15, 2024 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. "You know I love those visual things, obviously."
