China launches world’s largest electric river cargo ship
The world’s largest electric river vessel has been revealed
China’s introduction of the Gezoba, the world’s first electric cargo ship, with a capability of up to 13,000 tons is a landmark step.
It primarily operates entirely on lithium batteries instead of conventional fuels; it directly summarizes China’s integrated industrial strategy.
The Gezoba derives its strength from 12 lithium battery units and delivers a combined capacity of 24,000 kilowatt-hours.
Engineers have specifically defined the battery system for instant replacement, allowing the ship to cover approximately 500 kilometers on a single charge.
The project represented a comprehensive technological advancement and successfully integrated large-scale batteries, remote piloting, and maritime communication in a single operational platform.
It has been observed that the electric ship is expected to save 617 tons of fuel each year and mitigate annual carbon emissions by 2,000 tons.
Concerning the current development, Yin Shunping of the Chinese Academy of Engineering says the vessel’s development is “not just a single product innovation but contributes to the technological breakthrough that unifies large-capacity batteries, and intelligent control mechanisms.
The new development of electric vessels will help to save up to 617 tons of fuel annually and play a prominent role in reducing carbon emissions by approximately 2,000 tons each year.
Additionally, it represents China's utmost commitment to greener and more efficient maritime operations.
