Princess Anne receives 150-year-old honour in fresh statement
King Charles’s sister becomes first ever royal to take key position as working member of the family
King Charles’s sister is continuing to give a tough competition to other working members of the royal family as she carries on an important tradition of the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The Princess Royal, who is known to be the hardest working royal, has received a historic honour for her lifelong service to the Crown and the public.
Princess Anne has become the first-ever royal patron of Glasgow Caledonian University as it nears the 150-year anniversary of one of its founding institutions.
It was previously known as the Glasgow and West of Scotland College of Domestic Science and was later changed to Caledonian University.
“It is a great honour for Glasgow Caledonian to have the Princess Royal as patron for our university and to renew our long-standing royal connection,” Principal Professor Steve Decent said in statement.
“This is particularly poignant as we approach the 150th anniversary year of one of our founding institutions,” he continued. “Now, as then, we remain dedicated to delivering positive social and economic benefits to the communities we serve.”
He added that they look forward to discussing with Princess Anne the “areas of keen mutual interest and exploring future opportunities” as they work towards bringing positive change in the society.
“We offer our sincere thanks to the Princess Royal for agreeing to be our patron, and the university very much looks forward to welcoming Her Royal Highness to see our work first hand in the time ahead.”
The honour is a special one since the late Queen Elizabeth was one of the founding patrons of the institution, which has nearly 23,000 students.
It considers itself to be the leading Scottish institution for providing higher education to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
