Newly released footage of the crash has surfaced in the case of former Louisiana State University (LSU) wide receiver Kyren Lacy’s car crash.
In an interview with HTV10, Lacy’s attorney, Matt Ory, provided CCTV footage of the wreck, saying that the football star was 100 yards behind a deadly December collision that claimed the life of a 78-year-old man.
To be exact, Ory emphasised that Lacy was 72.6 yards behind the vehicles at the time of impact.
The footage then shows his car approaching the scene and steering around the crash.
Lacy was charged with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving, with a grand jury that had been scheduled for April 13, 2025.
Sadly, Kyren Lacy took his own life on April 12, just one day before he was scheduled to appear before the grand jury.
Soon after the former LSU player’s death, his mother, Kandace Washington, issued a heartfelt statement on Facebook.
“I’m absolutely heartbroken by the passing of my son. There are no words to express the pain our family is feeling right now. I know that I have not said much, but I wanted to let you all know that I am doing as well as I can right now.”
Newly surfaced footage has sparked a heated public debate, with fans and supporters rallying online under the hashtag #JusticeForKyrenLacy, sharing the video to argue that Lacy was wrongly blamed.
Many netizens claim the investigation ignored key evidence, while others highlight inconsistencies, such as bodycam footage showing a trooper seemingly coaching a witness to implicate Lacy.
One user wrote, "Breaks my heart he felt he needed to or that this footage took too long to come out."
Another one commented, "Kyren Lacy was framed and also never committed suicide. Something fishy is going on here. Whenever suicide is involved, almost never believe it."
A third one jumped in and wrote, "Everyone failed Kyren Lacy dawg."
The video has sparked concerns among many about the handling of the case and whether Lacy was unjustly accused.
His tragic death intensifies the grief, robbing a talented athlete of his future and leaving his family seeking answers.
