Angela Rayner has landed into hot water as deputy PM confessed underpaid stamp duty on her £800k luxury seaside home.
While speaking to Sky News’ political editor, Beth Rigby, Ms Rayner validated the reports, admitting her “mistake” not to pay enough text on the second home in Hove.
In response to the question, Rayner said, “"I'm devastated because I've always upheld the rules and always have done," she said, adding she would refer herself to the ministerial standards watchdog. "I made a mistake based upon the advice that I relied upon that I received at the time."
As reported by The Telegraph, Britain's deputy PM had evaded a £40,000 tax bill on her new seaside flat.
After the confession, Ms Rayner has referred herself to the Prime Minister’s ethics advisor.
Rayner, who also holds the position of Britain’s housing secretary, has been facing scrutiny for days after the tax shortfall on her flat near the southern English seaside resort of Brighton.
Her candid admission came hours after when the court overturned Rayner’s request to avoid disclosing the full financial arrangements.
Kemi Badenoch has urged Sir Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of UK, to sack Angela Rayner on the grounds of an underpaid tax scandal.
Mrs Badenoch at Prime Minister’s Questions said, ““I welcome the fact that the Deputy Prime Minister has referred herself to the ethics adviser. She has admitted she underpaid tax. So why is she still in office?”
The confirmation from the housing minister has put the position of Labour Party in jeopardy which is already falling behind Reform UK in the polls.
