Grey’s Anatomy star Camilla Luddington gives shocking health update
Camilla Luddington made public autoimmune disease diagnosis
Grey’s Anatomy actor Camilla Luddington shared shocking news about her health with her fans.
The actress shared that she has been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease after feeling ‘slothy’.
The famed Dr. Jo Wilson from the ABC medical drama revealed about her medical condition on podcast Call It What It Is Wednesday, August 6.
The actress confessed to the co-host of the podcast and co-actor from the long-running drama, Jennifer Capshaw that initially hearing the disease diagnosis ‘freaked’ her out.
However, Luddington later felt ‘relieved’ to know what was causing her the symptoms she had been experiencing.
The English actress shared with Capshaw that she got to know about her condition when she got her routine bloodwork done.
She recalled doctor sharing the news with her, “I remember hearing the words ‘autoimmune disease’ and thinking, ‘What the f***?’she said but was told the diagnosis was 'common.'”
The star was already suspicious because she was anticipating that ‘something was up’, but she had thought her condition had to do with perimenopause.
“So, truly when they said autoimmune disease, I, you know, I was a little freaked out. And then when they said it's really common, I was like, well, that sucks, but okay,” she acknowledged.
Surprisingly, the diagnosis though devastating still brought relief to 41-year-old as she felt better having answers regarding the condition she felt.
“I felt like I had the answer for something that I've been knowing is going on, and I have health anxiety. So there was a part of me that was like, am I gaslighting myself? No.”
For the unversed, “Hashimoto's is when your body's immune system accidentally attacks your thyroid” as mentioned by Luddington.
As per Cleveland Clinic, every 5 in 100 people in the U.S. is affected by Hashimoto, and is more prevalent among women.
