The royal family were gripped with panic as the royal engagement in Grasten on Monday took an unexpected turn.

Queen Mary, accompanied by husband King Frederik, and their two children, was greeting the crowds when she suddenly collapsed onto the group bending over in pain.

The King, Princess Isabella, 18, and Prince Vincent, 14, quickly gathered around their mother to assist her. Mary was rushed inside the Grasten Town Hall to for a quick check-up before returning to continue the royal engagement.

However, they all sighed in relief when it was discovered that the sharp pain in her leg was reportedly caused by a wasp sting.

“It was a warm and festive reception that Their Majesties The King and Queen and Their Royal Highnesses Princess Isabella and Prince Vincent received today in Gråsten,” the statement read.

“From the city square, the Royal family walked to Graasten Castle to start the annual summer stay. Along the route of almost half a kilometer long, the Majesties as well as the Prince and Princess were greeted by flags, flowers and greetings from the many attendees. Earlier they were received in front of the Old Town Hall by Sønderborg City Council,” it continued.

They also announced that “in connection with the Royal Couple's summer stay at Graasten Castle, the Royal Lifeguard will be marching through Gråsten town to the castle every day at 11.40, accompanied by two tambourines from the Tambour Corps at the Royal Lifeguard.”
