Buckingham Palace confirms key Princess Anne engagement after status change
Princess Anne set to represent King Charles during important event
Princess Anne will be stepping up to mark an important day on behalf of King Charles as UK is set to host main event.
Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Princess Royal, acting as a Master of the Corporation of Trinity House, will be attending the main event held at the Trinity House, Tower Hill, in London on Tuesday.
The event will be marking the annual IALA World Aids to Navigation Day, hosted by Trinity House, as a key part of the three-day celebration of maritime safety and innovation.
The event this year, which began on June 30 and will conclude on July 2, holds particular significance as the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) had an upgrade in its status.
It has now been changed from a Non-Governmental to an Intergovernmental Organisation. This is the first official event for the organisation with its new status. The new change is expected to provide exciting opportunities for stronger international cooperation at government level, relevant stakeholders and other international organisations.
Officially marked on July 1, the day’s theme for this year is ‘The role of physical Aids to Navigation in a Digital Future’.
The organisation intends to “bringing together senior representatives of Government, the wider maritime industry, R&D establishments and academia, and international organisations such as the IMO to participate in interactive discussions”.
The update comes just days after Princess Anne presented an MBE to veteran Geoffrey Roberts for his charity work and services to the commemoration of the Battle of Arnhem.
