Rajkummar Rao has surprised fans by stepping into the powerful role of Sourav Ganguly in an upcoming biopic.
The 40-year-old actor, known for his versatile performances, recently confirmed that he will portray the former cricketer.
During an exclusive interview, the Ludo star said, “Now that Dada has already said it, let me also make it official, yes, I am playing him. It’s a huge responsibility, but it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Later in the conversation, Rao revealed that his wife, Patralekha, has been very helpful in helping him learn Bengali language and accent for the film.
“Getting the nuances right is important when you’re playing a living legend,” he continued.
This confirmation comes shortly after India’s most successful Test skipper hinted at the Srikanth actor’s involvement.
Speaking to PTI, Ganguly, 52, said “Rajkummar has been locked for the film. I don’t think anyone else can play me better than him.”
Notably, Rao has previously portrayed Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the 2024 film Mr. & Mrs. Mahi.
The upcoming biopic is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Luv Films.
For the unversed, the project is set to go on floors in January 2026, with a theatrical release expected in December 2026.
