Meghan Markle is no stranger to public scrutiny as she had experience from being an actress at the hit legal drama, Suits.
However, the media attention increased ten-folds following her marriage to Prince Harry and the change from her status as an actress to royal.
The Duchess of Sussex recently became a public spectacle after dropping a video of her dancing while she was in labour about to give birth to Princess Lilibet. The footage of her twerking garnered millions of hits but it didn’t sit right with the royalists.
Many of them dubbed it as “cringe” as speculation build surrounding the fresh strategy for the Sussexes with a new PR team. But, Meghan owned the video, claiming that she was being her “authentic” self.
However, the Duchess revealed that one thing she would change about her story during a chat with Emma Grede, CEO of Good American and a Skims founding partner, on a new episode of her podcast, Aspire With Emma Grede.
While the full episode is set to air on Tuesday, a short reel was shared in which Meghan made a rare confession about her public image.
Emma shared that the acting career comes with people recognising you, and coming to speak to you on the street. However, she noted that what Meghan is experiencing now is “very different” from that.
“It is, Emma! It's very different,” Meghan responded as both women laughed.
Emma then asked, “I want to say this to you in the best way, because I wonder: If you could rewrite your public narrative from scratch, is there anything that you would do differently?”
Meghan replied, “Yes, I would ask people to tell the truth.”
The As Ever founder stepped down from her senior royal positions in 2020 with her husband Prince Harry to start an independent life in the US.
While the Sussexes were asked not to use their royal titles and the 'HRH' honour, Meghan has proudly flaunted her Sussex label even when promoting her Netflix series and lifestyle brand.
This reportedly did not sit right with the royal family, especially Prince William, as plans are being made to completely strip them off of the royal honour. It remains to be seen if the Sussexes can continue with their titles despite the growing royal rift.
