Prince William marches into hearts in military uniform
Prince William makes high flying debut as army air corps colonel-in-chief
Prince William hit the ground running today as he carried out his first official visit as Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps and it was far from a desk job.
The Prince of Wales, newly appointed to the role by King Charles in May 2024, arrived at the regiment to a warm welcome before diving into a packed schedule.
William was briefed on the AAC’s latest work, with a particular focus on 664 Squadron’s overseas operations and the game changing capabilities of the new Apache AH-64E helicopters.
The visit wasn’t just about high-tech hardware, though. The Prince also witnessed a gruelling combat physical training session giving him a front row view of the physical and mental stamina demanded of AAC personnel.
The session showcased not only endurance, but the essential team building skills of communication, leadership, and quick thinking under pressure.
According to royal insiders, the prestigious military role may well have been earmarked for Prince Harry, had he remained a senior working royal.
The Duke of Sussex served with distinction as an Apache helicopter commander and co-pilot gunner during his second tour of Afghanistan in 2012, gaining respect within the very regiment his brother now leads.
While Harry’s departure from royal duties altered the course of succession for several key patronages, today’s appointment underscores William’s expanding responsibilities and the monarchy’s focus on continuity.
