Nicole Kidman praises Hollywood female filmmakers
Legendary star Nicole Kidman says she works with a female filmmaker every 18 months
Nicole Kidman, legendary actress and filmmaker who is best known for her powerful roles in films like Moulin Rouge! and The Hours, is now using her platform to support women behind the camera.
The Oscar-winning star made a promise in 2017 to work with a female director every 18 months and she kept it. Nicole is still just as passionate about helping women get their shot behind the camera.
While speaking at the Kering Woman in Motion event at the Cannes Film Festival, Nicole shared: "I was at a point where we had a discussion where there was such a disparity in terms of the choice. You’d go, ‘Could a woman direct this?’ And there wasn’t a number of names where you could even consider people. They’d say it was someone’s first time and you didn’t want to risk it.
"I had to start to say this is how I am doing it. This is what I am doing.
"We will take the risk and we are going to mentor and support and help and then really protect. Because part of it is protecting and surrounding the women with almost like a forcefield of protection and support so they can do their best work.
"At the same time, it’s giving them the opportunity where they feel like this isn’t the only chance. A lot of is like, ‘OK, you get one shot.'”
The actress further said that she is also ready to take on ageism in Hollywood.
However, .comNicole wants filmmakers of every age to know that one setback doesn’t have to define their whole career.
