King Charles and Prince Edward were left stunned during the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday after witnessing a dramatic carriage crash.
The brothers were attending the annual event, a cherished tradition held on the grounds of Windsor Castle since 1943 and beloved by their late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The Queen had been a regular attendee until her final appearance in 2022, just months before her passing.
The atmosphere was festive as the royal family watched the cross-country race until chaos unfolded when one competitor’s carriage collided with a gatepost, sending shockwaves through the crowd and leaving the King and Prince Edward visibly taken aback.
Despite the unexpected incident, the show continued, with the royal family showing their support for the competitors and the enduring legacy of this historic event.
It started when the driver tried to speed through a narrow section of the course, but took the turn too tightly, causing the back of the carriage to crash into the 6-foot-high gatepost.
Witnesses say both King Charles and Prince Edward appeared visibly concerned as the collision happened right before their eyes.
One onlooker recalled, "The King pointed directly at the gatepost, while Edward put his hand to his face and then explained why the accident occurred."
Thankfully, despite the shocking crash, no injuries were reported. "No one was hurt, the four horses at the front were fine, and the competition continued without pause," the witness added.
