Shah Rukh Khan reveals shocking reason for 'stepping back' from Bollywood
Shah Rukh Khan opens up about his career
Shah Rukh Khan is revealing why he once wanted to step back from Bollywood after Karan Johar offered him an unexpected script.
During an exclusive media interaction at the WAVES Summit 2025 in Mumbai, the King actor explained that he was ready to give up his career after KJo proposed his role to wear a skirt throughout.
He said, “A few years ago, he (Karan Johar) came to my house with a script that required me to wear a skirt throughout the film. That is the only time I wanted to step back. It was one of those films set in older times where men wore skirts. But men wore skirts, not androgynous men like me wearing skirts.”
While the audience were in fits, the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai director quickly chimed in, clarifying that it was crucial since the skirt was a part of the character’s costume.
The filmmaker added, “It was the character, by the way.”
To which, SRK replied, “You wear the skirt for that character and act yourself.”
On professional front, Shah Rukh is currently gearing up for his upcoming film alongside Deepika Padukone, which is slated to release in 2026.
