Kate Middleton engagement ring swap honours Diana, Queen Elizabeth
The Princess of Wales pays tribute to the late Princess Diana and Queen Elizabeth with her latest jewellery choice
Kate Middleton’s latest jewellery choice was a touching nod to two royal icons.
During the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, the Princess of Wales swapped her usual sapphire and diamond eternity ring for her iconic engagement ring — originally belonging to Princess Diana.
The move marked a subtle yet meaningful shift in Kate’s jewellery choices, paying tribute to both Diana and the late Queen Elizabeth.
Jewellery expert Tobias Kormind told GB News that Kate’s decision to wear the sapphire ring was a “touching tribute” to both late women.
“Notably, she chose to wear her sapphire engagement ring (passed down from Princess Diana) for the occasion, after preferring to wear her sapphire and diamond eternity ring for most recent outings,” Kormind explained.
Since returning to public duties, Kate has alternated between the two rings. The eternity band first caught attention last year when she wore it in a video congratulating Team GB athletes, then again in her cancer recovery announcement.
While she has opted for the alternative ring during smaller engagements, she has consistently returned to Diana’s engagement ring for major occasions — including Remembrance events, state visits, and her latest outing.
Kate completed her Commonwealth Day look with other meaningful pieces, including Queen Elizabeth’s pearl choker and Diana’s Collingwood pearl drop earrings.
