Ken Flores, stand-up comedian, ‘LatinXL’ creator dies at 28

Ken Flores is dead.

The stand-up comedian, known for his work on the Latin XL comedy show, has passed away at the age of 28, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

Flores’ family confirmed his passing in a heartfelt statement on social media.

"It is with great sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of our friend, brother, and son, Kenyi Flores," the statement shared on Instagram read. "Please respect our privacy at this time as we are all shocked and devastated by this loss."

The comedy community has since paid tribute to Flores, who was regarded as a rising star in stand-up. The Hollywood Improv honored him with a post featuring photos of his performances.

"We were honored to share your talent on our stages. You were greatness, and it was only a matter of time until the whole world saw it," the venue wrote on Instagram. "You were also kind and a tremendous friend to all lucky enough to know you. We love you Ken, thank you for all the laughs."

According to TMZ, first responders arrived at Flores’ residence and attempted CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fellow comedians also expressed their grief and admiration for Flores.

Neema Naz responded to the Hollywood Improv’s post, writing, "I was hoping this wasn’t real. What a tragic and devastating loss to the world. Ken was a gem and was going to be a star one day. RIP."

René Humberto Valdiviezo, who co-produced Latin XL with Flores, shared his sorrow:

"My brother, it was a blessing to know you and share you with the world. You changed my life. You had so much left to do. My heart hurts for everyone whose life you made better."

Latin XL, a comedy show Flores helped create before the pandemic, was designed to provide Latino comedians with greater opportunities in the industry. The show's official Instagram account shared a tribute, emphasizing Flores’ impact on its creation.

"We were so proud of Ken when he made it in his dream as a kid from Aurora. We were always rooting for him and continued to share stages to present day," the post read. 

"Latin XL WOULD NOT exist without Ken. The XL was a nod to Ken for having an ‘XTRA large personality’ and being such a force… which crowds all over the country would inevitably love. Our hearts are with his family. Our grief is shared amongst all our friends and peers."

Flores’ passing has left a void in the comedy world, but his legacy of laughter and dedication to uplifting others in the industry will be remembered.
