Aamir Khan expresses disappointment over 'chauvinistic' films in recent update

Aamir Khan has expressed his disappointment over "chauvinistic" films, stating that they are hindering Bollywood's progress.

The 3 Idiots actor, who is currently occupied with Oscar campaigning for his highly-acclaimed film Laapataa Ladies, addressed the issue of the industry promoting a sense of chauvinism all along.

During a recent conversation with BBC Asian Network, the actor was praised for revolutionising the film landscape.

In response to a question inquiring about contemporary films showcasing a 'chauvinistic' attitude, the 58-year-old said he felt 'sad' about the concept.

He told the outlet, "It pushes us back a decade. So that's sad. I wish we didn't see that, but that's part of life.

"A lot of people endorse patriarchy in a strong way. A lot of people endorse patriarchy in a very hidden way."

In addition, the producer admitted that patriarchy is a 'deep-rooted' problem and can't just fade away overnight.

The Fanaa actor further went on to add, "And that's not so nice, but I feel that these are things that will gradually change. And stories can really change people's hearts.

"It is very unlikely to see a change happening overnight, especially in something like patriarchy."

On professional front, the actor announced that his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par is slated to release in 2025.
