Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor opened up about his thoughts regarding one of his most popular roles and vocally criticized toxic masculinity.
During an interview with Faye D'Souza, Shahid talked about one of the biggest hits Kabir Singh, and expressed his perception on the bagged role.
The 43-year-old went on saying, “It is not really about who I am. It is about who we all can be. Who we all choose to be."
"What we all want to be and your learning has to be from that and you cannot make films that are never addressing what is happening in life.”
Moreover, the Jab We Met star condemned the character of Kabir Singh and asserted, “I don't think a lot of things that Kabir did was acceptable at all. I would not accept a guy like that. But do guys like that exist? Do girls like that fall in love with guys like that? Yes they do! So why can't we make a movie about it.?"
"You walk away, you decide what you like what you don't like. That's really upto you, as an audience.”
In the movie, the dancer portrayed a passionate and intense lover, alongside Kiara Advani.
The film garnered mixed reviews. The director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga, faced backlash for endorsing toxic masculinity. Nevertheless, the movie achieved remarkable success at the box office.
On the work front, Shahid Kapoor is set to hit the big screens as will be seen in a forthcoming movie Deva, which will release in theatres on January 31, 2025.
