Meghan Markle surprises royals fans with her simple birthday celebration
On her birthday today, she is also scheduled to appear on US television with her husband
Meghan Markle has surprised her fans by revealing her unique birthday breakfast choice.
The Duchess of Sussex who turns 43 today (Sunday, August 4) revealed in a clip that she enjoys eating French fries with a candle for breakfast.
This quirky tradition was unveiled in a video reposted to X (formerly Twitter) from one of her past birthdays. In the clip, Meghan is seen chatting with a chef and sharing her unusual breakfast preference, much to the chef's delight.
“For my birthday, since I don’t have a sweet tooth, I always have French fries for breakfast with a little candle.”
The video was accompanied by a sweet birthday message which read: "Happy birthday to this girl boss, mother, wife, daughter, humanitarian, activist, role model, queen of constancy & kindness Princess Meghan Markle."
And others were quick to chime in with their own well-wishes. One responded: "Best wishes Meghan" alongside a heart emoji. Another separately wrote: "Happy Birthday to Meghan Markle The Duchess of Sussex. Wishing her all the best and all the happiness. May her grace, kindness, resilient, optimism and strength keep inspire us all."
This isn't the only time Meghan has revealed her love of the salty snack – and it's a custom that dates back many years. In 2012, she shared an Instagram post showing off her "Birthday french fries" along with the hashtag "tradition" and garnered 896 likes.
Similarly, she called chips her "vice" in an interview with Delish, and said she is also partial to wine. "French fries and vino are my vices," she said.
"I'm always hoping I'm having lunch with people, so we can share fries. It's its own food group for me."
Similarly, Meghan loves the popular Canadian dish poutine, which combines chips, cheese curds and gravy. "It's got to squeak when you bite into it," she said.
Earlier this week, it was disclosed that Meghan and Prince Harry will embark on a royal-style four-day tour of Colombia this summer.
On her birthday today, she is also scheduled to appear on US television with her husband to discuss their new initiative aimed at ensuring children's online safety.
Meghan's birthday plans are currently undisclosed, but she is expected to celebrate her special day in private with her supporting husband Harry and their children, 5-year-old Archie and 3-year-old Lilibet.
