Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix spark sinister chemistry in Joker: Folie à Deux
Joker: Folie à Deux to hit theaters October 4th
Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix are set to captivate audiences once again in Joker: Folie à Deux, the highly anticipated sequel to 2019's acclaimed Joker.
In the latest trailer released on Tuesday, July 23, Phoenix reprises his role as the troubled Arthur Fleck, while Gaga joins the cast as a compelling adaptation of Harley Quinn.
The trailer begins with a poignant voiceover from Harley, played by Gaga, expressing a deep connection with Arthur: "When I first saw Joker — when I saw you — for once in my life, I didn't feel so alone anymore."
The scenes that follow depict the duo engaging in a mix of dance, humor, and the darker aspects of their shared pursuits.
Harley appears to be a supportive presence in Joker's life, encouraging him with words like, "You can do anything you want ... you're Joker."
Director Todd Phillips has returned to helm the sequel to the critically acclaimed psychological thriller.
The original film, which garnered immense financial success and received 11 Academy Award nominations, including two wins, notably Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, set a high bar for its successor.
Filming for the sequel concluded in April 2023, with Phillips marking the occasion on Instagram with gratitude towards the cast and crew.
"That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer," Phillips, 53, wrote.
He expressed his next steps: "Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together."
Joker: Folie à Deux releases October 4th.
