Ashanti and Nelly tied the knot secretly six months ago
Ashanti shares insight into Nelly’s marriage proposal in a new interview
Ashanti and Nelly have reportedly tied the knot nearly six months ago!
A new report obtained via TMZ, the couple got married in December 2023 while the union became official in St. Louis County.
The couple are reportedly expecting their first child together… In April, Ashanti confirmed her pregnancy and revealed their engagement.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti shared the insight into Nelly's proposal.
The rapper popped the ‘will you marry me’ question from Ashanti in a very casual manner.
She reflected, “It was just such a beautiful, intimate moment. We were not dressy.”
After the marriage question, Ashani revealed she was “completely shocked”.
“I cried. I gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever,” recalled the singer-songwriter.
She mentioned, “I FaceTimed everyone I know... I was overjoyed and shocked and surprised and happy kind of like all in one.”
While discussing about her official nuptials, the Gotta Move on crooner confirmed she would give birth before walking down the aisle.
Ashanti also took a moment to reflect on how far she and the rapper had come after their first dating.
“Never in a million years did I think we would be here. Ten years ago - maybe yes - but after our breakup, you know, I didn't even think we'd ever have a conversation again,” she recounted.
The couple dated from 2003 to 2013 before going their separate ways. Then, in 2021, Nelly and Ashanti met each other at Fat Joe and Ja Rule's Verzuz battle.
Later, they rekindle their romance, adding “I guess when you go through a breakup, for me personally, I kind of just shut that person out.”
Ashanti added, “It's kinda like, OK, that chapter is closed and you just move on, you know, and there's nothing there.”
