Apple is reportedly launching an OLED MacBook Pro and iPad after iPhone.
Although the latter is officially confirmed, it appears that the OLED MacBooks will not be available for quite some time, according to Dexerto.
A new supply chain report from Omdia claims the MacBook Pro with OLED display will finally launch in 2026.
“Apple is highly likely to incorporate OLED into its MacBook Pro models as early as 2026. This move could spark a significant surge in OLED demand within the notebook market, potentially reaching over 60 million units by 2031,” stated the report.
The growing demand for OLED panels is the reason Apple intends to release OLED MacBooks. As per the display demand prediction by Omdia, there is a projected 37% annual growth in the market for OLED panels in laptops between 2023 and 2031.
This increase is indicative of a larger trend which is seeing manufacturers are putting OLED screens on their more expensive laptops and tablets.
OLED screens offer better contrast ratios than the LCD panels seen in the MacBooks that are being sold today. Because they do not require a backlight, they are also slimmer and consume less energy.
By stacking two OLED screens on top of one another, Tandem technology is used in the OLED panel that Apple debuted with the iPad Pro 7th generation. As a result, the brightness is higher than with standard OLED displays.
