Sanjay Leela Bhansali shared insights on Sharmin Segal's performance in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.
In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, the 61-year-old Indian filmmaker discussed his collaboration with his niece, Sharmin, on the sets.
The Bajirao Masrani director divulged, “She kept saying, ‘Mama, I’ll underplay.' I said, ‘Underplay? Are you thinking I’m going to ask you to overplay?”
He further added about the 28-year-old actress, "I know that they (the new generation of actors) love me as much. I can see it in the way (they ask me), ‘Are you happy? Should we do one more take? Can we do it one more time? Are you okay? I can see that love in their eyes. Now that’s very rare."
In the series, Sharmin portrays the character of Alamzeb, the daughter of Heeramandi's brothel madam Mallikajaan, played by Manisha Koirala.
For the unversed, Sharmin has assisted SLB's in all his recent directorial projects.
She entered the world of acting with her debut in his 2019 production Malaal.
The inaugural web-series of SLB is streaming on Netflix from May 1, 2024.
