Imtiaz Ali discussed the disappointment surrounding his highly-anticipated films Love Aaj Kal and Jab Harry Met Sejal.

During an interview with HT City, the 52-year-old filmmaker revealed that Love Aaj Kal and Jab Harry Met Sejal faced challenges due to "execution problems, expressing hope that they receive the recognition they deserve.

Imtiaz said, “When I made them, I just wanted to make a movie, but they didn’t work. All my films have had some problems in execution; [I feel] they could have been better.”

The Jab We Met director expressed optimism that over time, people will come to recognize the value in these movies, as there may be hidden gems that were not immediately evident.

Imtiaz exclaimed, “I don’t want my films to come across as intellectual. If they do, they might seem restrictive, and I don’t want them to belong to an exclusive crowd."

"I would love to make a masala film, but I just don’t know how to make it as I can’t help but be myself," he added.

Professionally, Imtiaz Ali is basking the success of his recently directed biopic film, Amar Singh Chamkila, starring Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dosanjh.

The film was released on Netflix on April 12, 2024.
