Priyanka Chopra praises Aishwarya Rai, Sushmita Sen for global success
Priyanka Chopra recalls sweet memories attached to Miss World and Miss Universe pageants
Priyanka Chopra heaped praise on Aishwarya Rai and Sushmita Sen for representing India on a global scale at a very young age.
The Quantico actress recalled sweet memories attached to Miss World and Miss Universe pageants in a new episode of Read The Room podcast with Cavanaugh James.
She added, "There was a decade of winners back-to-back from my country, and it is a little different."
The Citadel actress believes that pageants have a "bad reputation" in America but it is the opposite in India. She continued, "So yes, I was interested when India participated, our family would watch the pageant and it was really fun."
Speaking of the veteran Bollywood actresses Aishwarya and Sushmita, who won the Miss World and Miss Universe titles in 1994, Priyanka shared that she kept newspaper clippings of their big win.
She added, "But it wasn't like I wanted to be her. It was like 'Wow look at these young women doing so well on a global scale.'"
Priyanka further stated, "So, I was always curious about that, but I never wanted to go after that. So, when I was thrown into it, I really believed I was destiny's child in some way, and I really ride that and I do not fight it."
For the unversed, Priyanka also won the title of Miss World in 2000 after her brother Siddharth Chopra sent her photos for the pageant without informing her.
